'The Simpsons' coming to a cinema near you

A spokesperson for the show revealed that a preliminary script has been written, and that a read-through has even taken place.

Fans of 'The Simpsons' need have a cow no longer, as it looks like TVs yellowest family will soon be hitting the big screen.

After years of rumour and speculation, a show spokesperson said this week that a film is finally in the works.

Responding to Nancy 'voice of Bart' Cartright's recent revelation that the cast have already done a table read of the script, Antonia Kaughman explained that the project was indeed moving ahead.

'They did do the script read, that is correct,' Kaughman told MTV News, 'It was all our six principal actors, and then we had a couple of secondary actors, and they do all of Springfield – over 100 characters amongst them.'

'Simpsons' creator Matt Groening has said time and time again that, due to the time and commitment involved in writing a script, work wouldn't begin on a movie before the show's television run had ended.

However, it now seems that a solution has been found, with the film and TV show set to go into production simultaneously.

'We're going to get the best of both worlds,' Kaughman said. 'Matt just kind of laughs, because we always said there was no way to pull the writers off or go hire writers that haven't worked on the show.

'They finally worked out a movie team, because we could never hire outside writers; they had to be 'Simpsons' writers, and most of them were working on the show. Well, they finally put this team together that has time on their side, and they've been working on the script.'

The project currently has no title or release date, but don't expect it to hit screens for at least another two years due to the lengthy animation process.

No matter how long it takes though, 'The Simpsons' will eventually be coming to a cinema near you, which can only be a good thing for the world of film.
