Two excellent new trailers hit the net

Catch a first glimpse of 'Broken Flowers' starring Bill Murray, and an adaptation of 'The Constant Gardener'.

Jun 20 2005

Film trailers for projects by two of cinema's most unconventional directing talents have hit the net this week.

The first is 'Broken Flowers', Jim Jarmusch’s second collaboration with Bill Murray following the excellent 'Coffee and Cigarettes' in 2003.

The film previewed at Cannes earlier this year, where it screened to critical acclaim (click here for the Time Out report) and also won the coveted Grand Prix.

And it certainly looks like a winner, with the slightly contrived plot allowing Murray to play off the like of Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone, Tilda Swinton and Julie Delpy as he searches for his long-lost daughter.

Second up is 'The Constant Gardener', an adaptation of the John Le Carré bestseller starring Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz and Danny Huston.

In spite of the impressive cast, however, the real reason to get excited about this one is the fact that it is directed by Fernando Meirelles, who made the outstanding 'City of God' in 2002.

It will be interesting to see how the exceptional helmer fares with this film's more conventional plot (a thriller about the murder of a diplomat's wife) but should he hit one out of the park yet again, expect 'The Constant Gardener' to be among the favourites come Oscar time.
