Laurence Fishburne and Philip Seymour Hoffman to star in 'Mission: Impossible 3'

The pair will join man-of-the-moment Tom Cruise in the action-packed sequel.

Jun 20 2005

If Tom Cruise wasn't busy enough at the moment visiting premieres, getting engaged and avoiding lethal streams of water, it seems that the 'War of the Worlds' star is all set to start work on 'Mission: Impossible 3' within the next month.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laurence Fishburne were added to the film's cast over the weekend, joining Michelle Monaghan, Ving Rhames, Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers on the big budget blockbuster.

And while we've no idea who Fishburne will be playing in the sequel (although we're guessing he'll be a badass of some kind), Hoffman has been cast as the villain, following in the illustrious footsteps of Jon Voight and Dougray Scott from the previous two films.

Production is all set to start in Italy on July 18, under the guidance of JJ Abrams, creator of the hugely successful TV series 'Alias'.

A release date has also been pencilled in, with the film hitting US screens on May 5, barring any other aqua-related mishaps.
