Russell Crowe's latest gets a money back guarantee
If punters don't like 'Cinderella Man', American cinema chain AMC will give them their money back.
Jun 29 2005
American cinema chain AMC are so confident of the quality of the new Russell Crowe film that they are offering viewers a money back guarantee.
'Cinderella Man', which stars Crowe as heavyweight champ Jim Braddock opposite Renée Zellweger and Paul Giamatti, has had some excellent reviews, but so far the Ron Howard-directed flick has failed to set the box office alight.
Its gross currently stands at around $50million after four weeks on release, but with the wealth of talent involved, and much Oscar-talk surrounding the film, many more bums were expected on seats up and down the States.
In response, the huge cinema chain is putting its money where its mouth is across America, running ads online and in newspapers proclaiming the film's excellence.
'AMC believes 'Cinderella Man' is one of the finest motion pictures of the year!' their adverts chime. 'We believe so strongly that you'll enjoy 'Cinderella Man' that we're offering a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.'
Whether that will be enough to make the film the hit it very possibly deserves to be remains to be seen, but don't expect such stunts to become commonplace – after all, if Odeon or VUE tried this with any of the recent effects-heavy, script-free summer blockbusters of the last few years, they'd very likely go bankrupt.
