Two 9/11 films in the works

Including a story about two Port Authority police officers that will be directed by Oliver Stone.

Jul  8 2005

The terrible terrorist attacks that hit London yesterday have come at a time when America finally seems ready to start making films about the September 11 attacks in New York.

Oliver Stone and Nicolas Cage yesterday announced they will make a film about two Port Authority police officers, Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin, who rescued countless victims before the World Trade Centre collapsed in 2001.

The two officers then survived the fall of the towers themselves, thanks to the rescue efforts of others who pulled them to safety before their oxygen ran out.

While the film currently has no name, a script has been written by Andrea Berloff and pre-production has already begun.

Columbia Pictures have also announced plans to make a film based on Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn's 9/11 book '102 Minutes'.

The book details the rescue attempts that took place between 8.46am, when the first plane hit, and 10.28, when the first tower collapsed.

'Shattered Glass' writer-director Billy Ray is currently working on the script, although no start date has yet been set.
