Paul Walker to fly the 'Flags of Our Fathers'

'The Fast and the Furious' star joins the cast of the Clint Eastwood war film.

Jul 29 2005

Paul Walker has bagged a role in Clint Eastwood's forthcoming World War II epic 'Flags of Our Fathers'.

'The Fast and the Furious' star (whose latest film, 'Into the Blue', hits UK screens on October 21), joins Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach and Jesse Bradford on the big-budget project, which is due to go into production any day now.

Based on the bestseller of the same name, by James Bradley and Ron Powers, the film takes place during the Battle of Iwo Jima, when 26,000 Americans and 22,000 Japanese died in just one month.

It was also the conflict that produced one of WWII's most enduring images – a photograph of US soldiers raising the Stars and Stripes at the island's command centre on Mount Suribachi.

Walker will play Hank Hansen, an experienced soldier and one of the aforementioned flag-raisers.
