Samuel L Jackson is 'Afrosamurai'

The comic book hero is all set to hit the big screen, with the coolest man on the planet in the title role.

Aug  3 2005

We love a good film title here at Time Out towers, and they don't come much better than 'Afrosamurai', a forthcoming action pic from Japan.

Based on Takashi Okazaki's cult comic book series of the same name, the film will star Samuel L Jackson and revolve around a samurai with, you've guessed it, a giant afro.

For those not in the know, 'Afrosamurai' concerns No 2, a master swordsman who travels the road seeking to avenge his father's death (in spite of the fact that said father probably gave him the name 'No 2').

His arch enemy is No 1, a three-armed gunman who also happens to be the 'Lord of the Dark Swordsman's Road' (apparently).

Speaking of the project, producers Charles Roven and Alex Gartner said: 'Afrosamurai' is an enormously exciting concept that we think will translate strongly into a feature film.'

The live action adaptation is set to hit screens in 2007, although before that Jackson will lend his voice to an animated version of the story, which is set to air on American TV in 2006.
