Could 'The Island' be a clone?

Producers of a 1979 sci-fi are claiming that the Michael Bay blockbuster is identical to their film.

An independent film company is alleging that Hollywood blockbuster 'The Island' is based on their 1979 film 'Parts: The Clonus Horror'.

Producers are claiming that Michael Bay's film (reviewed here), released nationwide tomorrow, is a direct clone of their low-budget sci-fi, citing 90 examples where the two films are identical.

They include characters, costumes, settings and story, which in both instances revolve around a secret colony of clones that are specifically bred to provide spare parts for humans.

The makers of 'Parts: The Clonus Horror' (reviewed here) have asked a New York court for the film to be withdrawn, and are also seeking unspecified damages and part of the proceeds from the release of the film.

DreamWorks now has 20 days to respond to the suit, and has already released a statement saying: 'The Island' was independently created and does not infringe anyone's copyrights.'
