Karl Urban to star in Viking epic

The New Zealand-born actor is in negotiations to star in a remake of Nils Gaup's 'Pathfinder'.

Aug 15 2005

Karl Urban ('The Bourne Supremacy', 'The Chronicles of Riddick') is in talks to star in forthcoming Viking epic 'Pathfinder'.

A loose remake of Nils Gaup's brilliant 1987 film of the same name (click here for the Time Out review), it will tell the tale of the Norsemen who discovered America a full 500 years before Columbus.

Urban would play the grown-up version of a boy mistakenly left behind by the Vikings during a battle with the American Indians.

The Indians then raise the boy as their own, and he eventually leads them in battle against his blood relatives.

The $30 million production is set to start shooting in Vancouver in December, and will be directed by 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' helmer Marcus Nispel.

Before then, Urban will be seen in video game adaptation 'Doom' which hits UK screens on October 28.
