'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' finds God
Steve Carell is to star in a sequel to the hit comedy 'Bruce Almighty'
Aug 26 2005
Steve Carell, currently riding high at the top of the American box office in 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', is in talks to star in a sequel to the 2003 smash hit 'Bruce Almighty'.
'Evan Almighty' would see Carell reprise his role as tenacious news anchor Evan Baxter, who has a hilarious verbal breakdown live on-air in the original.
This time around his character would be encouraged by God to build an ark, Noah-style, and gather together every kind of animal on earth for a forthcoming flood.
Tom Shadyac ('The Nutty Professor', 'Liar Liar') will again direct, Steve Oedekerk has already written the script and Morgan Freeman is currently in negotiations to star as the mighty one yet again.
And if 'Evan Almighty' proves to be a hit, Universal are already talking about a franchise of 'Almighty' films in which Freeman's God advises a variety of comedy characters in need.
