'The Dukes of Hazzard' fail to 'Crash' the box office party

The 'Dukes' disappoint at the London box office over the weekend, while 'The Cave' fares even worse.

Aug 31 2005

The London box office had a familiar feel over the weekend, with 'Crash' and 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' continuing to dominate proceedings.

Indeed, so great was their gross that not even Jessica Simpson in a pair of tiny hot pants could break their reign at the top.

'The Dukes of Hazzard' therefore had to settle for number three, a disappointing debut for a film that had been hyped to the hilt.

Below them several films took a tumble, with 'The Island', 'Me and You and Everyone We Know' and 'Wedding Crashers' all falling a place and 'Bewitched' falling three.

'The Cave' (or should that be 'The Descent Reduced') also failed to scale the chart summit, being a new entry at number eight, while the deeply average 'Unleashed' and 'The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D' rounded out the top ten in unremarkable fashion.

Things are looking up, however, with 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin', 'Red Eye', 'The Business' and current Time Out film of the week, 'Last Days', all set to dramatically change the chart for the better next week.
