A heads-up to all fans of Asian cinema – Firecracker Showcase 2005 kicks off tomorrow (September 8), with over 40 films screening over the course of the festival's 11-day run.

Featuring an eclectic range of films from one of the most dynamic filmmaking regions in the world, the showcase takes in movies from China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, The Philippines, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Screenings take place at the Curzon Soho, Curzon Mayfair, the Genesis Whitechapel and The Gate in Notting Hill, and will include premieres, documentaries, double bills, triple bills and all manner of East Asian brilliance.

Opening with the UK premiere of Huo Jianqi's visually stunning romance 'Nuan', Firecracker continues with such disparate efforts as 'Howl's Moving Castle', 'A Bittersweet Life' and an action-packed Sonny Chiba triple bill, before closing with a screening of Ryoo Seung-Wan's gripping boxing drama 'Crying Fist'.
