Renée Zellweger to play Beatrix Potter
The 'Bridget Jones' star will play the children's author in a forthcoming period biopic.
Sep 29 2005
Renée Zellweger, currently riding high at the London box office in 'Cinderella Man', is to star in a biopic of legendary author Beartix Potter, for 'Babe' director Chris Noonan.
'Miss Potter' will explore the life and times of the writer of such children's classics as 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' and 'The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle', and the film will mix live-action with several scenes of animation.
Following her struggle for independence in Victorian England, the film will also chart Potter's romance with publisher Norman Warne, a role that Ewan McGregor is reportedly in talks with the film's producers to play.
If he does accept, 'Miss Potter' will mark the first time McGregor has acted opposite Zellweger since they teamed up for 2003 romantic comedy 'Down with Love'.
Richard Maltby Jr, who directed the Broadway hit 'Fosse' and co-wrote the lyrics of 'Miss Saigon', is currently busy working on the script, with production set to start on location in the UK next March.

"So I don't know how Kathryn Speak had cream cakes in it as it is PRIVATE?"
It isn't private, it's a small cafe. Except it closed for the week when they did the filming there. It'll be up and running as a cafe again now. The guy who owned it was keeping tight lipped, but he told us they had done loads of work to the place. They had even painted the front of the house the same colour as Beatrix Potters original house. If anybody wants any photos to have a nosy at just pop me an email.

- I too agree that Miss Potter should be played by an english actress. But then Hollywood wants to draw in as much money as it can. I hope they don't take too much creative licence, Posted on Jun 12 2006 16:10

- They have been setting up at Nichol End Marina (at the house where the actual Mr MCgregors garden is) in Portinscale, Nr Keswick for about 2weeks. So I don't know how Kathryn Speak had cream cakes in it as it is PRIVATE? whith a public footpath running along beside it, you can spy through the fence at the Vegtable patch which still looks identical to the drawings in the book. - I was up in the lake district for a holiday this week and bumped into miss potter! hehe. I also was sat in Mr McGregors garden having cream cakes when I realised all the flowers etc were all false. I realised why the day after when they started filming there. I managed to get a few good pics before being moved on for not being 'period' enough. Posted on Apr 28 2006 01:13
