The Oscar-winning star will be honoured for lifetime achievement.

Nov 17 2005

Sir Anthony Hopkins will pick up a prestigious lifetime achievement award at the 63rd annual Golden Globe awards in January.

Welsh born Hopkins, who now resides in LA, picked up an Oscar in 1991 for his portrayal of 'Hannibal Lecter' in Jonathan Demme's 'Silence of the Lambs'.

He went on to receive further Oscar nominations for 'The Remains of the Day' and 'Nixon', as well as six Golden Globe nominations.

The highly regarded Cecil B DeMille honour was first awarded in 1952 to its namesake for 'outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment'. Now the knighted Hopkins will join DeMille, as well as other previous winners such as Alfred Hitchcock and more recently Harrsion Ford and Robin Williams.

Sir Anthony can next be seen starring alongsode Gwyneth Paltrow in John Madden's drama 'Proof', released early 2006.
