David Bowie to play 19th century inventor

The rock star is in negotiations to star opposite Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in a magical new film.

Nov 21 2005

David Bowie is in talks to star in forthcoming flick 'The Prestige' for 'Batman Begins' helmer Christopher Nolan.

Bowie received critical acclaim for performances in the likes of 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' and 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' more than 20 years ago, but hasn't appeared on screen since his hilarious cameo in 'Zoolander' in 2001.

If negotiations are successful however, the artist formerly known as Ziggy will play Nikola Tesla, a 19th Century inventor helps one of two competing stage magicians pull off the ultimate trick.

'The Prestige', which stars Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and Christian Bale, is due to start shooting in January.
