Bafta win for 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'

Tim Burton's picture is voted best film at the 10th Children's Bafta awards.

Nov 28 2005

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' has been voted the year's best children's film by the people who count – children themselves.

Tim Burton's adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl book won the title at the 10th British Academy Children's film and Television Awards, which were held at the London Hilton last night.

The hugely successful film, which features a spellbinding central performance from Johnny Depp as confectionary wizard Willy Wonka, beat stiff competition from the likes of 'Batman Begins', 'Fantastic Four' and 'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events' to win the award.

The film failed to bag the Bafta panel's award for best feature however, with that honour going to animated superhero pic 'The Incredibles'.
