'The Equalizer' returns
The Weinstein Company is preparing a film version of the Edward Woodward TV classic.
Dec 2 2005
Bob and Harvey Weinstein have announced plans to bring TV favourite 'The Equalizer' to the big screen.
The hugely popular show, which ran from 1985 to 1989, revolved around a former government agent who decides to turn over a new leaf and use his covert skills to help people in trouble, kind of like a one-man 'A-Team'.
Speaking of the project, Harvey Weinstein said: ''The Equalizer' was one of my favourite TV series of the 1980s because the writing was always smart and very unpredictable. I am really excited about developing and producing this film.'
Much of the show's success was down to a quite brilliant performance from Edward Woodward in the lead role however, so the hunt is now on to find a suitably tough and charismatic 'Equalizer' for today. Our suggestion? Bill Nighy.
