Spike Jonze to journey 'Where the Wild Things Are'

The 'Being John Malkovich' helmer will adapt the children's classic for the big screen.

Actor, director and visionary genius Spike Jonze ('Being John Malkovich', 'Adaptation.') is to make his first children's film in the shape of the fantasy adventure 'Where the Wild things Are'.

Based on Maurice Sendak's book of the same name, the film will tell the tale of Max, a naughty child who is sent to his bedroom for donning a wolf suit and misbehaving.

A jungle magically appears in said room, and Max embarks on a wondrous journey, meeting a variety of incredible monsters along the way.

Sendak's classic book is beautifully illustrated, but at just 338 words in length, Jonze and collaborator Dave Eggers now have their work cut out in turning it into a full-length film.

Production is likely to start later this year, with Tom Hanks' company Playtone producing, and will be live action combined with a sizeable amount of CGI.
