Joe Wright visiting 'Hangover Square'
The talented 'Pride & Prejudice' director plans to adapt the classic Patrick Hamilton novel.
Jan 16 2006
'Pride & Prejudice' helmer Joe Wright is working on a new version of Patrick Hamilton's classic 1941 novel 'Hangover Square' for Fox/DNA.
Wright is currently collaborating with writer David Nicholls (the forthcoming 'Starter for Ten') on the project, although no cast or start date has yet been confirmed.
It will be the second screen version of the book, which tells the tale of depressed drunk George Harvey Bone and his obsession with a beautiful woman called Nette whom he stalks through the streets of London.
Whereas John Brahm's 1945 adaptation (reviewed here) did not stick particularly closely to the source material, Wright and Nicholls plan to make a faithful screen version of the book.
'What was interesting to us was that Joe and David, two people we admire a lot, have an absolute passion for this material,' DNA's Allon Reich told Screendaily.com. 'We reacted to extremely talented people saying they're obsessed with the book.'
We'll bring you more news on this intriguing project as and when it happens.
