'Grange Hill: The Movie'

Phil Redmond announces plans to make a film about the fictional inner city comprehensive.

Jan 27 2006

'Grange Hill' creator Phil Redmond has announced plans to bring his legendary TV series to the big screen. The show, which revolves around life in an inner city comprehensive school, first started in 1978 and has run for an amazing 29 series.

In the past, 'Grange Hill' tackled serious subjects like bullying, drug addiction and teen pregnancy while at the same time making household names of characters like Danny Kendall, 'Tucker' Jenkins, Roland, Ziggy and Zammo.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Redmond said: 'I have been thinking about the idea for two years. I'm writing the script now and should be ready to start shooting in spring 2007 for an autumn release.

'I will be filming in and around Merseyside and I'll look at where some of the old characters are now and what happened to them.'

why was Grange Hill not actually filmed at Grange Hill in chigwell, that's what I want to know? Maybe the fim could be a documentary and resolve this issue for me and I can get on with my life? Posted on Jan 27 2006 17:28

I dont object to this film going ahead, however, there are some pre-requisits - a) I think Mr Robson should be demoted back to PE teacher and Mrs McCluskey come out of retirement to have a sabatical year in charge. b) Mr Bronson must re-enact loosing his wig in the swimming pool, c) Ditch that slapstick caretaker, and d) instead of tackling subjects the youth couldn't care less about, the real issues in today's schools should be covered: eg) who should be England manager, which teacher deserves a 'Happy Slapping', and why education is for gimps and a waste of time. Best character ever? Gotta be Gripper.
And will only go and see this one if they use the original title credits with that brilliant music. Posted on Jan 27 2006 16:24

Surely we've got to "Just Say No" to this idea of Redmond's. It would be like making a film of Rentaghost.............. that said "Rentaghost: Mrs. Popov's Revenge" wouldn't be the worst film ever. Posted on Jan 27 2006 16:24

Could be a classic. Just a shame that Mr Bronson has died in real life as the man must surely be the greatest Grange Hill character ever! Posted on Jan 27 2006 16:20
