Joaquin Phoenix interview
The talented actor discusses his Oscar-nominated performance as Johnny Cash in 'Walk the Line'.
Jan 31 2006
Today has been a good day for Joaquin Phoenix – not only has the talented actor been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in 'Walk the Line', but his Time Out video interview has also been posted online!
'Walk the Line' hits UK screens on Friday, and is a brilliant biopic of country legend Johnny Cash, powered by a note-perfect performance from Phoenix as the self-styled 'man in black'.
I caught up with Phoenix to discuss the ambitious project, and as he chain-smoked his way through the interview, he discussed accepting the most challenging role of his career, singing those remarkable Johnny Cash songs, and getting inside the troubled mind of a rock 'n' roll genius.

- Mr. Phoenix, Although the Academy will mistakenly award Philip Hoffman the Oscar, you've won our hearts with your soulful and courageous portrayal of Johnny Cash. There aren't enough awards to give you. Posted on Feb 27 2006 20:03

- My Father was a huge Cash fan, So I grew up around his music. Joaquin hit it on the head in more ways than people know. Joaquin should be rewarded for all his work and talent towards this film. He made "the man in black" someone everyone could relate to and for that a lot of Cash fans are proud. Thank you Joaquin. A job well done! Posted on Feb 06 2006 01:02

- JP- I think he is the most eccentric actor of our time. He is not only talented but, he capture's the character's the he portrays to a tee. He is selective in his movies and I respect that. There is nothing worse then seeing a marvelous actor play in a shitty film just for the money. Wasted talent!!! Love you, when you want true love come and get me!!!! Posted on Feb 03 2006 06:27

- Great interview - one of the ones where Joaquin really lets go and talks. I've been a fan of Joaquin's for some 10 years and he never ceases to amaze me with his talent and endless dedication. Not only that, he is a beautiful person inside and out. I hope both he and Reese are awarded for WTL and I must say I'm very disappointed that the Academy is snubbing the film itself for Best Picture Posted on Feb 01 2006 21:40

Great interview. Huge fan of Joaquin Phoenix. I think he is such a wonderful actor. He takes the time to really get inside the character he is playing and that kind of dedication shows onscreen.
I hope that both he and Reese Witherspon take home the Oscar for their performances in Walk the Line. Posted on Feb 01 2006 19:25 - Report as inappropriate
