Coen brothers tackle 'Old Men'
Joel and Ethan are planning a film adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel 'No Country for Old Men'.
Feb 1 2006
What in the world has happened to Joel and Ethan Coen, the god-like geniuses responsible for the likes of 'Miller's Crossing', 'Fargo' and (my personal favourite) 'The Big Lebowski'?
Since misfiring in spectacular fashion with the forgettable 'Intolerable Cruelty' and the downright deplorable 'The Ladykillers', they appeared to have fallen off the face of the planet.
Today however, Production Weekly made an announcement that will make discerning film fans the world over happy – the Coens are to start work on a new film later this year.
'No Country For Old Men' will be an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's critically acclaimed, Texas-set novel about a farmhand who stumbles across two dead men, a stash of heroin and $2 million in cash while hunting near the Rio Grande.
The brothers are currently writing the script, with production due to start in Texas and New Mexico in May.
With comedies 'Suburbicon' and 'Hail Caesar' also currently in pre-production, it looks like the Coens will be back with a bang in 2006.
