Superbowl spots
New trailers for 'Poseidon', 'Cars', 'Mission: Impossible III' and 'V for Vendetta' all hit the net.
Feb 6 2006
Yesterday was 'Superbowl Sunday', a day when millions of Americans crowd around TV sets the length and breadth of the country to do their best impressions of couch potatoes. They aren't tuning in to watch the game however, nor are they getting together to watch The Rolling Stones half-time show (though we'd have paid good money to see Keith Richards have a Janet Jackson-style wardrobe malfunction midway through 'Start Me Up'). No, the main reason to tune in is to watch the many 'Superbowl spots' that studios broadcast to stir up interest in their summer fare. And last night was no exception.
The best of the bunch was probably 'V for Vendetta', a film that looks better and better with every clip that's released. Be warned though – it does feature a spectacular shot from the film's climax, so if you don't want the finale spoiled, avoid it.
Just as spectacular is the wet and wild 'Poseidon' trailer, while 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' looks equally wet but ever so slightly more fun.
There's also a new, if brief, spot for 'Cars' which features a couple of good gags, while Tom Cruise is doing his heroic summer shtick in 'Mission: Impossible III', which has stirred our interest thanks to the presence of Philip Seymour Hoffman as the villain.
