Vincent Gallo is Coppola‘s man
Vincent Gallo has been chosen for the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's new film, 'Tetro'
Francis Ford Coppola limped back on to our screens last year after a ten-year directorial hiatus with the stodgy ‘Youth Without Youth’, a widely derided work which made his previous John Grisham adaptation, ‘The Rainmaker’ appear positively inviting.Let's hope he can pull things back with his new movie, ‘Tetro’, which, after numerous pre-production setbacks – including his Argentinian flat being burgled and the laptop containing the script being pinched – is all set to go with Vincent Gallo in the lead role.
Oscar-winner Javier Bardem is set to take a supporting role in this story about a young Latin American man on the trail of his estranged brother.
Coppola has said that the choice of Gallo to star in his film may ‘raise a few eyebrows’, but the director of 'The Godfather' also reckons the role may cast a new light on the 'Buffalo 66' and 'Trouble Every Day' actor who is usually linked with edgy and creepy roles.
The film is expected to open in 2009.
