Cannes 2008 closing film announced

Barry Levinson's new film has been snapped up to close the 2008 Cannes Film Festival

And the film which is set to close the 2008 Cannes Film Festival is… the new one from Barry Levinson called ‘What Just Happened?’, according to a story from The Hollywood Reporter.

With ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ a lock as the opener, it seems that the Hollywood contingent are keen to nab all the high-profile screenings this year.

The film is said to be a Hollywood satire with Catherine Keener starring as a cynical studio boss which ends, coincidentally enough, at the Cannes Film Festival.

Markedly starrier than last year’s closer, Denys Arcand’s ‘The Age of Ignorance’, which doesn’t look like it will be released in the UK, it is said to star feature turns from Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro and Sean Penn, which should incite some red carpet mayhem before the awards are dished out.

The remainder of the Cannes line-up is set to be announced on April 23.
