Lars von Trier's 'Antichrist': trailer preview

Take a peek at the bizarre new trailer for Lars von Trier's latest foray into horror, 'Antichrist'

It's been fairly quiet on the Lars von Trier front since his deliciously funny meta comedy 'The Boss of it All' was released in cinemas back in 2007. But now, after a lengthy period of silence which has been peppered with lots and lots of rumours, we finally have the first peak of his new film, 'Antichrist', which – if 'industry buzz' is anything to go by – should receive its world premiere at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

From this trailer, it looks a little like a Euro arthouse riff on Sam Raimi's 'The Evil Dead', with a grieving central couple, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe, heading out to a remote woodland cabin to repair their broken marriage. And by the looks of it, things head south pretty swiftly, prompting the couple to have kinky sex on top of a spooky-looking tree which appears to be populated by an army of hand models. But, as we should be well aware considering Loopy Lars's back catalogue, this 'horror' movie is probably going to be as close to the staples of the genre as 'Dancer in the Dark' was to 'Meet Me in St Louis'.
