London Philharmonic perform at Chaplin screenings
Carl Davis will conduct the Orchestra at special Sadler's Wells screenings of 'Modern Times' and 'The Rink'.
Mar 16 2006
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is to perform at special screenings of two of Charlie Chaplin's most popular films.
Carl Davies will conduct the Orchestra in his own score for 'The Rink', a 1916 short that is widely regarded as a prototype for many of his later works.
The Orchestra will also accompany a screening of the Chaplin classic 'Modern Times' (reviewed here), where Davis will conduct a score written by Chaplin himself.
'I have enjoyed a long relationship presenting the great films of the silent era with the London Philharmonic Orchestra' said Davis. 'In 2003 we presented a Charlie Chaplin festival, featuring films from the '20s and '30s, and now, this later film from 1936 – the year of my birth – marks a fitting extension to this collaboration which celebrates the work of a genius.'
The screenings will take place at Sadler's Wells on April 9th and 10th, and tickets are available from the London Philharmonic Orchestra box office on 020 7840 4242 and from the Sadler's Wells box office on 08707 377 737.
