'Transformers' cast coming together

Shia LaBeouf is in talks to play a character called Spike Witwicky in the forthcoming feature.

Mar 30 2006

Shia LaBeouf is in talks to play a central character in Michael Bay's forthcoming 'Transformers' movie.

LaBeouf, who starred in 'Holes', 'Constantine' and 'The Greatest Game Ever Played', is in final negotiations to play Spike Witwicky, an 18-year-old who buys a car, little realising that said automobile is really an elite sentinel for the Autobots.

And for those not in the know, the Autobots are a kindly group of robots who turn into cars, planes, boats, trains and the like.

The big budget feature will revolve around their battles with the evil Decepticons, a group of similarly shape-shifting robots intent on world domination.

'Transformers', which is produced by Stephen Spielberg, will start shooting in LA in May and is due to hit screens July 4, 2007.
