Giamatti cast as Claus

Paul Giamatti will play Father Christmas while Vince Vaughn will play his brother in a new comedy.

Apr  3 2006

Paul Giamatti has joined Vince Vaughn in the cast of a forthcoming seasonal comedy about Santa's black sheep brother.

'Sideways' star Giamatti will play Father Christmas in the film, while Vaughn plays his less popular younger brother, who returns to the North Pole after an extended absence.

We first reported on the flick here in February, when it was called 'Fred Claus', but that title has apparently been shelved because of potential rights issues. A new title has yet to be agreed upon.

Before then, Giamatti will be seen in M Night Shyamalan's 'Lady in the Water', while Vaughn stars opposite Jennifer Aniston in 'The Break Up'.
