Fraser journeys to the centre of the earth

Brendan Fraser will star in 'Journey 3-D', an effects-laden update of the Jules Verne classic.

Apr 21 2006

Action man Brendan Fraser is returning to 'Mummy' territory with 'Journey 3-D', an update of the Jules Verne's classic 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'.

Fraser, who starred in fantasy adventures 'The Mummy' and 'The Mummy Returns', will play a scientist who travels to Iceland to investigate a volcanic sensor in the new film.

While there, he and his nephew become trapped in a cave by a raging storm, with their only means of escape through the earth's core.

Visual effects expert Eric Brevig will direct the flick, which will initially shoot in live action. Backgrounds, landscapes and creatures will then be added through high-definition 3-D technology.

'Journey 3-D' starts shooting in Montreal on June 10.
