Poseidon preview

The TOMB grabs a sneak peak at one of the biggest films of the summer.

What better way to start the week than a sneak peak at one of the biggest films of the summer – Wolfgang Peterson's 'Poseidon', which hits UK screens on June 2nd.

Starring Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss, Emmy Rossum and Jacinda Barrett, the film is a mega-budget remake of the 1972 daddy of all disaster movies 'The Poseidon Adventure', and the lovely people at Warner Bros invited The TOMB along for a glimpse at some early footage of the feature this morning.

So what of 'Poseidon' 2006? Well unfortunately, the preview was all character introduction and development, with little in the way of watery death and destruction.

So we met Russell the put upon father, Lucas the gambling lothario, Barratt the glamorous single mum and Dreyfus the heartbroken gay guy with a very questionable earring, but didn't get to see any of them die.

The footage finished with the spectacular capsizing of the boat, followed by an extended trailer, but all-in-all we didn't really learn anything new from the footage, apart from the fact that there doesn't appear to be a Shelley Winter's-like figure to bring much needed (if unintentional) laughs to the proceedings.

My opinion? One decision on the filmmaker's part will make or break this film – the fate of the cute kid (whose perilous situation is underlined here). If Peterson has the balls to kill him off, I'm there, and if not, for me at least, 'Poseidon' will sink rather than swim.
