'16 Blocks' batters box office competition

Bruce Willis has a new entry at number one, while 'Slither' comes in at lowly number eight.

After disappointing numbers last week, the London box office was even more lacklustre over the bank holiday weekend, with none of the top ten managing to break the £70k mark.

Straight in at number one was the Bruce Willis action thriller '16 Blocks', which managed to knock 'American Dreamz' from one to three with a haul of £67,234.

Which means that, remarkably, 'Inside Man' has moved up a slot from three to two, an impressive feat for a film that's been in cinemas for six weeks. I guess the people of London just can't get enough of Clive Owen's dodgy US accent.

Further down the chart, Dominik Moll's excellent 'Lemming' came in at number six, the finest horror flick of the year 'Slither' could only manage a disappointing debut at number eight, and the 'Enron' documentary was a new entry at number nine. In my humble opinion, all three films deserved better, but I guess there's no accounting for taste!

Next week, Tom Cruise's mission is to destroy all other films on release with 'M:I 3' and The TOMB has little doubt he'll succeed.
