'The Wicker Man' trailer
Nicolas Cage does his best Edward Woodward impression in the Neil LaBute remake.
Jun 6 2006
'The Wicker Man' was pretty much the last film I ever wanted to see subjected to the remake treatment.
A horror experience unlike any other, the 1973 original has a sense of anxiety and foreboding that no other film has ever matched. That atmosphere is equalled by note perfect performances from all involved, while the finale is one of the most terrifying passages of film I have ever seen.
Yet the first trailer for the remake has hit the net, and it isn't half bad. I still don't think Nicolas Cage will come close to putting in a performance as powerful or affecting as Edward Woodward, and LeeLee Sobieski is no Britt Ekland (though judging from this footage, she isn't supposed to be).
However, the marvellous Ellen Burstyn looks suitably creepy in the Christopher Lee role, and in Neil LaBute, the film has a talented writer-director who should bring something new to the table.
So while I'm by no means a convert at this early stage, the remake may not turn out to be the disaster that I (and many others) have been expecting.

Once again a great (british) movie has had to endure the bad remake treatment
once again what have they accomplished, nothing apart from creating pure garbage.
Leave the classic's alone & use your brain & think of something new. Posted on Jun 07 2006 09:09 - Report as inappropriate
