Craig made a Lord

Daniel Craig will play Lord Asriel in the film version of 'The Golden Compass'.

Aug 18 2006

The cast of 'The Golden Compass' just gets better and better, as hot on the heels of the announcement that Nicole Kidman will play Mrs Coulter, we've heard news that Daniel Craig will star as Lord Asriel.

The current James Bond, who has just finished work on 'Casino Royale', will play the enigmatic adventurer who holds the key to many of the film’s mysteries. He joins Kidman, Eva Green and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards in the cast.

Based on the first part of Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, 'The Golden Compass' will be directed by Chris Weitz ('About a Boy') with production set to start in the UK on September 4.
