Cast comes together for 'Spiderwick Chronicles'

Mary-Lousie Parker, Joan Plowright, Nick Nolte, Martin Short will all star in the fantasy adventure.

Oct  4 2006

'Mean Girls' helmer Mark Waters is currently assembling a stellar cast for this forthcoming fantasy flick 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'.

Based on the best-selling book by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, the story revolves around twin brothers Jared and Simon who stumble across a mysterious other world peopled by elves, fairies and other strange creatures.

Freddy Highmore ('Finding Neverland') has been cast as the twins, while Mary-Louise Parker is their mother, brat pack stalwart Andrew McCarthy is their father and Joan Plowright will play their unfortunate aunt, who is committed when she claims to see the creatures too.

The film will mix live action and animation, and Nick Nolte and Martin Short will lend their voices to an evil shape-shifter and a disruptive creature respectively.

'The Spiderwick Chronicles' is currently shooting in Montreal, and if it turns out to be a hit in 2007, expect further chronicles to follow.
