'Sweeney Todd' gets his girl
Helena Bonham Carter will play Mrs Lovett in Tim Burton's forthcoming musical.
Oct 18 2006
The cast for Tim Burton's 'Sweeney Todd' is coming together, and in an announcement that will surprise precisely no one, the director has found a role for his longtime partner Helena Bonham Carter in the musical feature.
Johnny Depp has already been cast as the 'Demon Barber of Fleet Street', while Carter will play his accomplice and lover Mrs Lovett, who fills her pies with a most unusual meat.
Carter has already worked with Burton on 'Planet of the Apes', 'Big Fish', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and 'Corpse Bride', and seems a perfect fit to play the dastardly Lovett.
Rumours persist that Sacha Baron Cohen will play rival barber Signor Adolfo Pirelli in the big screen musical, although Burton is yet to confirm or deny his involvement.
'Sweeney Todd' is set to go into production in early 2007 and should be in cinemas by next Christmas.
