Wachowskis ready 'Speed Racer'

The Wachowski brothers have finally settled on their next big screen project.

Nov  1 2006

After the relative misfires of 'The Matrix' sequels and 'V for Vendetta' (which they produced), The Wachowski brothers are returning to the silver screen with a live action version of cult classic 'Speed Racer'.

Based on Tatsuo Yoshida's classic 1960s series, the film will follow the adventures of race car driver 'Speed' as he battles arch-enemy Racer X in his Mach 5 (which is not a massive razor but rather a gadget-filled car).

The Wachowski's plan to write and direct the film, which will apparently be more family-friendly than their previous work.

'They wanted to do something that could appeal to everybody' explains producer Joel Silver, who expects to shoot the film next year for a summer 2008 release.
