Borat for make benefit American box office

Sacha Baron Cohen's monstrous comic creation has opened at number one in the States.

Nov  6 2006

The buzz around Borat has reached fever pitch in America, with Sacha Baron Cohen's deeply offensive and hilarious comic creation blowing away all competition at the American box office.

Opening on Friday, 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' destroyed family favourites 'The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause' and 'Flushed Away' to open at number one.

Producers had worried that the American public would take offence to Borat's cringingly direct humour and bad haircut, but the truth is they can't get enough of Kazakhstan's least favourite son, with the film grossing a staggering $26.4 million over the weekend.

'Borat' screened at only 837 theaters across the USA, but will expand to over 2200 screens this weekend, meaning millions more Tenge for the mustachioed one. Is nice!
