'Wild Swans' take flight

Jung Chang's controversial and hugely successful novel about life in China is to be made into a film.

Nov 27 2006

'Wild Swans', Jung Chang's hugely successful account of life before, during and after Mao's revolution in China, is finally set to hit the big screen.

Having previously resisted requests to turn her award-winning book into a film, Chang has finally agreed to allow Christopher Hampton ('The Quiet American') to work on a screenplay, which her friend Eric Abraham will oversee through his Portobello Pictures.

The non-fiction novel was first published in 1994 and has since sold more than ten million copies worldwide. It examines life in China through the experiences of Chang, her mother and her grandmother.
