Jan 10 2007
Judging from the popularity of 'Mamma Mia!' stories on this site, there seems to be a lot of interest in the film version of the stage hit. So fans will doubtless be pleased to hear that a true acting heavyweight has been cast in the ABBA musical in the shape of Meryl Streep.
The multiple Oscar-winner, who recently proved she could hold a tune in 'A Prairie Home Companion', will play the mother who refuses to reveal the identity of her daughter's father. The story follows said daughter's efforts to locate the missing dad and invite him to her wedding.
Theatre director Phyllida Lloyd is currently in negotiations to helm the pic, based on the script by Catherine Johnson.
