'Son of Rambow' sells for big bucks

The latst film from Hammer & Tongs sells for $8 million at Sundance.

Jan 24 2007

Last year Time Out spent a wonderful day on the set of Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith's 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' follow-up 'Son of Rambow'.

A charming coming-of-age tale revolving around an inspired premise – young boy is inspired to shoot a Rambo homage having seen 'First Blood' for the first time – it looked like a winner even at that early stage.

And it seems that we weren't the only ones charmed by the idea, as following an all-night bidding war at Sundance, Paramount Vantage picked up the worldwide rights to the film for a whopping $8 million yesterday.

Speaking of their acquisition, Paramount Vantage heads John Lesher and Nick Meyer said ''Son of Rambow' is a funny, moving and beautifully crafted tale of friendship and the poignant journey of filmmaking'.

Our man in Sundance also thoroughly enjoyed the film, so look out for his 'Son of Rambow' review later today, while an exclusive interview with Garth and Nick can be found here and my set visit feature will be coming soon.
