'The Departed' boys plan future projects

Screenwriter William Monahan is set to team up with Scorsese on one project and DiCaprio on another.

Feb 27 2007

William Monahan is so hot right now. The Oscar-winning screenwriter of 'The Departed' is all over the news today with two high-profile scripts in the works, one for Martin Scorsese, the other for Leonardo DiCaprio.

First up is 'The Long Play', a musical epic that follows two friends through four decades in the music business. Based on an original idea by Mick Jagger, Scorsese will direct the flick, with Monahan rewriting the current script.

Once he has finished that, Monahan will write 'Confessions of Pain', based on the 2006 Hong Kong smash hit.

Telling the tale of two friends – one a police detective, the other a private detective – who team up to investigate the murder of the cop's father-in-law, the film is set to star DiCaprio, who will also produce.

Where that leaves the rumoured 'The Departed' prequel is anyone's guess, but following those Oscar wins it's surely just a formality now, making Monahan pretty much the most in demand screenwriter in Hollywood right now.
