Mamma Mia! Brosnan signs up for new rom-com

Ex-Bond star is cast opposite Streep in Abba musical

Mar  8 2007

It's a far cry from his days playing steely secret agent James Bond, but Pierce Brosnan has signed up to star in a new film adaptation of the hit West End musical 'Mamma Mia!'

Starring opposite Meryl Streep, Brosnan will play Sam, one of three men summoned to a Greek isle by a young woman looking to find her father.

Perhaps surprisingly, for Brosnan, reportedly picked for the role for his 'smooch factor', the opportunity to sing camp Abba classics on Greek islands was too good to be true: 'I said yes right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep' said the housewive’s favourite, 'what a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend some time with Meryl on some Greek Island, singing Abba songs.'

Fans of the greying star needn't worry as his usual icy persona is set to return as preparations are underway for the sequel of 'The Thomas Crown Affair'.
