Wahlberg is 'Happening'

Mark Wahlberg is to star in M Night Shyamalan's forthcoming 'The Happening'.

Mar 30 2007

Mark Wahlberg has signed up to star in M Night Shyamalan's latest thriller 'The Happening', which will be released worldwide on June 13, 2008.

Telling the tale of a family on the run from an apocalyptic crisis which threatens to end the world, little else is known about the project at the moment, though during my recent trip to the SXSW festival, rumours were rife that the script is Shyamalan's darkest yet, with some seriously shocking scenes of children committing suicide rather than face the mysterious happening.

Speaking of the casting decision, Shyamalan said 'Mark has a unique blend of charisma, humanity, authenticity and skilfulness as an actor, all of which coalesced at this moment in his career, making him the perfect person to take on the role of Eliot Moore, the science teacher at the centre of this event.'

'The Happening' is set to shoot in Philadelphia this August.
