Columbus to direct 'Lightning Thief'
Chris Columbus is to helm a film version of the first book in the 'Percy and the Olympians' series.

It appears to be fantasy franchise time in Hollywood, as hot on the heels of the 'Seems' series announcement yesterday, Chris Columbus has revealed plans to adapt the 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' books.
Written by Rick Riordan, the first entry in the series is 'Lightning Thief', which revolves around a young boy who finds out he is the descendant of a Greek god and travels to a magical land to bring a truce between mythical deities. As you do.
The book has already sold 500,000 in the US alone, and the fact that Columbus's track record includes mega hits like 'Home Alone' and the first two 'Harry Potter' flicks suggests that this one will be a license to print money.
