Jason Statham enters 'Death Race'

The action star is set to play a deadly driver in Paul WS Anderson's big-budget remake.

Apr 23 2007

'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' star Jason Statham is in talks to appear in a big-budget remake of the Roger Corman cult classic 'Death Race 2000'.

Released in 1975, the original starred Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine as skilled drivers taking part in ultra-violent races from New York to Los Angeles. Points are scored by killing fellow drivers or mowing down innocent bystanders.

'Resident Evil' helmer Paul WS Anderson will write and direct, with work set to start on the film, now simply called 'Death Race', this autumn.
