Clooney faces 'Crisis'

George has acquired the rights to a documentary about Bolivian politics entitled 'Our Brand is Crisis'.

Apr 23 2007

George Clooney has snapped up the rights to Rachel Boynton's political documentary 'Our Brand is Crisis', which deals with the dangers of exporting America's questionable brand of democracy abroad.

Warner Bros want Clooney to develop the film through his Smoke House production company, with a view to directing, starring or both.

The original is a fly-on-the-wall documentary about the Bolivian presidential election of 2002, when Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada hired James Carville's Washington-based consulting firm to employ American tactics like focus groups, sloganeering and smear tactics to help him win the race.

Gonzalo was victorious, but Bolivia soon descended into chaos and crisis and the newly elected President was forced to resign.

'Sixty Six' scribe Peter Straughan has been brought in to adapt the doc, and in a perfect world Clooney will play the famously raging Cajun Carville.
