'Iron Man' suited and booted

See the first image of Tony Stark, aka 'Iron Man', in his final red and gold suit.

May  4 2007

The first official image of the Stan Winston-designed 'Iron Man' suit has appeared online, and it's a suitably heroic and stylish red and gold affair.

The comic book adaptation started lensing in March, with Robert Downey Jr playing the millionaire playboy who builds a high-tech armour to fight evil after suffering a life-threatening injury in war-torn Afghanistan.

Entertainment Weekly bagged the image, and director Jon Favreau explained that they are terribly tough togs to wear. 'Robert was very bullish on wearing the suit whenever possible. Now I don't know if he's such a fan of that idea.'

Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow co-star in 'Iron Man', which is set to hit screens on May 2 next year.
