'City of God' helmer tackles Shakespeare
Fernando Meirelles plans a modern-day adaptation of 'Love's Labours Lost'.

Fernando Meirelles has announced plans to direct a romantic comedy based on the Shakespeare play 'Love's Labours Lost'.
The 'City of God' helmer will update the story to present day, set it amongst a group of international students and shoot on location in Brazil, London, Denmark and New York sometime in 2009.
Before then he plans to make 'Blindness', a film about a village where everyone is struck blind apart from a doctor.
'After I do 'Blindness', which is a very dark story, I'll really need to do a comedy' Meirelles explained in an interview. 'I like comedy a lot and I have done some for Brazilian television, but somehow my films like 'City of God' and 'The Constant Gardener' are all these very dark subjects. I should probably talk to my psychologist about that.'
