Dutch actress Carice van Houten, so brilliant in Paul Verhoven's recent 'Black Book', has signed up to star in 'Smoke and Ochre', a biopic of revolutionary South African writer Ingrid Jonker.
Jonker made her name writing poetry in the 1950s and '60s, and her life was an eventful one – her mother went mad and died young while her father, who kicked her out and insisted she be raised by black servants, worked his way up to a prominent place in the apartheid government.
Dutch helmer Paula van der Oest, previously Oscar nominated for 'Zus and Zo' is onboard to direct, with shooting set to start once van Houten completes work on psychological thriller 'Dorothy Mills'.
